Note
In the 1860 census., Hanorah and were living in Milton, Indiana - probably at 127, Main Street. At any rate, they lived on Main Street, between Brook and Cherry). They had ten children (seven born in Limerick and baptised in St Michael's, Denmark Street) and three born in the USA. The following year, the American Civil war broke out. Also known as "The War of rebellion" (in the north) or "The Great War of Northern Aggression" (in the south). For the 1870 Census, taken June 1, there are just five people living in 127 (?) Main St. Milton Indiana: Jerry (Sic) aged 50, a watchman. Hannah (sic) aged 48, keeping house. William aged 28, no occupation (considered intellectually disabled, although he did work later in the same school as his father in Richmond, Indiana) Margaret aged 18, no occupation Thomas aged 14, no occupation This means that seven of the children were absent . junior had died of disease during the Civil War, aged 17. Of the other six, Catherine, James, Mary-Anne, John, Gabriel, and Hanora, we have no record, until Gabriel dies in Richmond in 1912.
Note
Jerry took a divorce action against his wife in November, 1870. She, Hanorah, had testimonials from two quaker worthies in Milton, Indiana - G.W. Callaway and E.B Newman. Nevertheless, was successful and the divorce was formalised. The hearing was in held in Wayne County Court, case number 2679, dated November 1870. " divorced Hanorah". There is a one page document in the file which states that the case against Hanorah was proven and he was, therefore, granted the divorce.
Note
Junior's mother, Hanorah, received a pension, due to his death in service. She claimed she never got a dime from her (divorced) husband's disability pension (NARA records) (TOS April 2011)
Note
Birth year of 1820 is calculated from her death year of 1907, aged 87. (TO'S March 2013)
Note
EMIGRATION DETAILS had emigrated to Philadelphia in 1851. Hanorah and the children followed in 1853, leaving limerick on the 13th of June. Unusually, they travelled on a Norwegian "Brig" of 230 tonnes "burthen" directly from Limerick. It was called the "WASHINGTON". Captain was R Tillisch. They arrived in New York on Aug 15, 1853 in the middle of one of the worst heatwaves on record. People were falling dead in the streets. Details as follows: Honora (sic) Sullivan (sic) aged 30 William aged 10 Catherine aged 9 James aged 8 aged 6 Mary aged 2 Twins John (10 months) and Margaret (10 months Additional comments The Brig, Washington, tramped all over the British Isles and the Mediterranean. The goods it brought to Limerick were timber and, probably, ice, which was a common import from Scandinavia to Limerick. Possibly coincidentally. there were three young Wallaces immediately after the "Sullivans" on the manifest: Michl Aged 17 Mary Aged 26 Richard Aged 7 Bridget aged 9 months (incorrectly entered as male) Speculation: Could Mary be the mother of Bridget and could she be following out her husband, just like "Honora". We know that the Wallaces were cousins of the Sullivans on the Fitzgibbon side (from May Sweetland's memoir) TO'S Mar 2013.
Note
Hanorah is buried in lot 87, section 3E in the "City Cemetery" in Connersville Indiana. Hanorah, Jerry Sr and Jerry Jr and Catherine are in the same plot. (as per Ginny Revalee , of Connersville Library) - TOS Mar 2013 For a photo of the plot, see her son, 's, record
